Steven Gerrard is ‘confident’ Diego Carlos will play a role for Villa following a successful surgery

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is certain that summer’s signing Diego Carlos will play a “big chunk” of the 2022/23 season following a successfully operated on an Achilles tendon rupture. Carlos has had an operation to repair the injury that he suffered during his second Villa match in the match against Everton the previous weekend.The Brazilian, a reported PS26million player from Sevilla will be absent for several months, however Gerrard is confident that the 29-year old will be a key player in the coming season. It’s certainly a loss to let go a player of such significance, Gerrard said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace. Every day that passes, the closer he gets to returning and we’ll offer him all the support and patience that he requires from a medical point view.He’ll be back in action next season, without doubt. We’re confident about that.It’s extremely difficult to establish the time frame on this injury since the procedure in this instance as well as most of the time it’s fairly straightforward.The crucial thing is the way that rehabilitation progresses and how you can hit your goals in the process. However, we can say with certainty that the player will continue to play and will play a significant part of the season.
