Style has no age limit – as the winners of our Glamorous Gran competition clearlydemonstrate. Our beautiful winners Nicola Henderson and Jacqueline Podmore each get PS500 to purchase an entire new wardrobe at JD Williams. Here our lovely Meet Britain’s Most Gorgeous Granswho were invited to a photoshoot at the studio in our London studio – share their story with Nicola Bartlett how they look stunning:
I do receive a lot of compliments when out. People will always tell me “you look great” and asking me where I buy my clothes.I was wearing an PS5 Black dress by Primark for an evening out earlier in the week. It was a blast bargain shopping. My focus is on being happy. Sometimes I’ll feel fabulous, but at times I feel old and fat.I don’t have a long time getting ready , maybe an hour or so, though I’m likely to decide on the outfit I’ll wear a few times, and frequently seek advice from Iain – it’s fun to get ready and drinking a glass of wine while you put on your make makeup. My hair in the day will appear flat, but I do enjoy styling it up a bit more during the night.I must feel comfortable no matter the clothes I’m in.I’m fine with having someone in the same dress as me, but only if they’re thinner and more attractive than me, of course!I know precisely what is right for me and what’s not. I know precisely what to wear and what not to wear. I’m quite good at it.If I’m running around with the grandkids , then I’ll be wearing trainers however, if I’m out, I’ll always wear heels. The higher the better as otherwise, I’m a little bulky.I am absolutely enthralled by watching my grandkids.
My son Nathan is my oldest. Nathan also has a child named Matilda; Lloyd has Jacob, Eli and baby Holly due soon And my sister Marie is a mother to a child known as Marie. We’re very fortunate that they are all close to each other.I totally spoil them and am also extremely indulgent, however Iain’s a little more strict, so they refer to him as Grumpyfish! The possibility of me killing Iain when I learned that he had nominated me for this.
Nicola Henderson, 44
Nicola Henderson, 44, from Ashington, Northumberland, has two grandsons: the one year-old Jayden as well as six year-old Robert. The mother of two has a job as a single mom in a clothing shop. She has nominated herself. My son who is the youngest Andrew texted me via message this past week that caused me to cry. He wrote me about how much he enjoyed the bond we shared with my two grandsons.I am a huge fan of looking after my dogs, particularly going out to the beach or to the town.
Robert is a hemophiliac, and is at risk of getting an injury to his joint when the he hits things. I have a sixth sense of danger and I carry an initial aid kit on me.It’s not just playing with my grandsons that keeps me in shape. I recently started rowing and work out five mornings each week, starting at 7.30. Then , I take an outing in the country on Sundays.
Through all my training, I have very strong stomach muscles. I need to have a number of my dresses tucked into the proper size I’m always going to the tailors. But I’m too much muscly in my arms that I’m often forced to wear the size 10 instead of eight.
You never know whom you’ll meet even while rowing therefore you should straighten your hair to ensure it’s nice with a ponytail, then put on mascara, and then apply a dab of lipstick.I don’t put on lots of makeup for outings I use a makeup puff to apply on my face, and some blusher. I don’t wear foundation, and do not really apply more than mascara on my eyes.
However, I like large hair when I go out, and I make use of rollers.
I believe that one of the issues for women of my age is that shops tend to have younger women wearing these outfits, and people like me stare at the clothes and wonder that I could never wear the same thing.I have clothes in all kinds of stores, including the charity shops.
However, one thing I’m specific in is matching my bags with my shoes. If I’m wearing pink shoes I’ll need an pink bag or If it’s a gorgeous lemon-colored bag, it needs to be lemon-colored shoes.
If anyone inquires about my age, I always say I’m 44. I also say I’ve got two children – I’m proud of both .”
Retired grandmother
Retired grandmother of 7 Jacqueline Podmore, 74, from Notting Hill, West London is a resident of London for most of the time living in Malaga, Spain with husband Albert. Her nomination was submitted for the award by her daughter Aimee Barrett.
When I was a kid, I worked at Aquascutum in the post office. The models were mannequins sporting straight, straight down and up figures.A few days ago, I was asked to wear the beautiful green corduroy dress in front of the company bosses. They snapped a few photos, but I’ve not been photographed. I often get compliments but.The other week , I went to the theatre along with my partner Albert and a lady approached me and told me: “I just have to say, you have the most beautiful cheekbones.” I was slightly uncomfortable, but it was nonetheless pleasant to hear.
