Tommy was able to engineer an escape as part of the prison transfer which allowed Freddie to get out.It appeared Freddie was in good hands however, at the beginning of season two, it was discovered that he had died from “pestilence”.Ada as well as Tommy were the ones to preside over the funeral, while she mourned her husband. A lot of fans are in awe of what happened to the character and the actor quit the show.
However, it’s not entirely clear what the reason is Freddie was removed from the show or why Goldberg quit, however it could be a story-driven decision. In a conversation with Collier at the time of 2013 regarding Peaky Blinders, Goldberg said: “The world that they created, together with Steven Knight, who wrote it, was vast and grand.”Usually we cut corners and create a bigger-than-life look however, everything was huge and grand, and epic, in this production. It was amazing! It was amazing. We were not shooting on an off-site location. The location was in U.K., shooting in the most beautiful locations in Leeds. The whole thing seemed like it was from the original. It was truly incredible. Then, you look at the costumes.”I’m sure you’ve heard this before from actors, but I’ve not had many experiences like it.”
